ILO Initiative on Decent Work for Peace
The ILO Initiative on Decent Work for Peace, launched by the ILO Director-General in 2025, mobilizes ILO resources to strengthen the role of constituents and the Office in promoting decent work in fragile, conflict and disaster-prone contexts. The initiative operates across the Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus (HDPN), which fosters collaboration between humanitarian and development agencies to address both the immediate needs of people affected by conflict and the underlying causes of protracted crises. Through this integrated approach, the initiative aims to promote durable solutions grounded in the principles of decent work.
Since its inception, the initiative has supported seven projects in Afghanistan, Libya, Myanmar, Togo, the three countries in the Liptako Gourma area (Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger), Syria and Ukraine. These projects support the early recovery of labour markets, reinforce preventive measures and build resilience by actively involving ILO constituents—ensuring their sustained engagement in advancing decent work as a key element of crisis prevention and response.
