Investing in resilience through decent work in crisis settings
Around 2 billion people live in contexts marked by fragility and armed conflict, while an additional 200 million are affected by slow- or sudden-onset disasters. Although the causes and consequences of these crises vary, they all disrupt livelihoods, erode social protection systems, and deepen decent work deficits.
If left unaddressed, such crises risk entrenching poverty, widening inequalities, and fuelling instability.
Through its rights-based development approach, the ILO works hand-in-hand with governments, workers’ and employers’ organizations, UN partners, and other actors to strengthen the resilience of individuals, communities, and institutions. By placing employment at the centre of recovery, the ILO promotes decent work and social justice as powerful levers for peacebuilding and inclusive development.
