Promoting decent work for crisis-affected communities in the Sahel

This initiative builds on and adds to previous ILO efforts in the target areas and is implemented hand-in-hand with constituents in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger. It contributes to improving the livelihoods of beneficiaries (host communities and displaced populations) by strengthening capacities for sustainable land management, including the development of irrigated areas, in line with the principles of just transition and fundamental principles and rights at work. Working closely with UN partners across the three countries, the project positions the ILO as a key actor in fragile contexts by strengthening local capacities and fostering supportive conditions for implementation of employment-intensive investment programmes (EIIP).

Building on this approach, the project is implemented under the ILO Initiative on Decent Work for Peace and advances the application of decent work principles for peacebuilding in line with the HDP Nexus approach.
