National child labour survey (NCLS) reporting templates

The National Child Labour Survey (NCLS) reporting templates provide a structured approach to analysing NCLS data and disseminating key findings, enabling National Statistical Offices to present evidence-based results that are essential for policy formulation and programmatic interventions to combat child labour.

Building on the ILO's expertise in analyzing child labour data and developed on the basis of the latest child labour measurement standards, the templates are tailored to the needs of National Statistical Offices, providing tabulations and areas of analysis while ensuring a robust methodology for conducting comprehensive child labour assessments.

Starting with a background discussion on the definition and measurement of child labour, the templates guide the user through the presentation of the main results of the child labour survey in a concise and accessible manner.

The templates include chapters on findings relating to child labour prevalence, trends, the interaction between work and school, correlates of child labour, characteristics of child labour, occupational safety and health consequences, educational consequences and household chores. It concludes with a final chapter summarising the findings of the survey that are considered most relevant for follow-up. Annexes provide additional possible tabulations and the survey methodology.

The abbreviated version provides core tabulations, while the full-length version provides comprehensive tabulations.

These templates are flexible and adaptable, with no fixed rules regarding the inclusion of specific tables or sections in the main body of the report. National Statistical Offices are invited to adapt the structure, content and presentation of the report to best reflect the results and findings of their survey efforts.
