Regional Initiative Latin America and the Caribbean Free of Child Labour

The Regional Initiative represents the tripartite commitment of 31 countries in the region, together with employers' and workers' organizations, and the ongoing support of the International Labour Organization and development partners. Together, they are joining forces to tackle the structural causes of child labour and move towards its definitive eradication.

The Regional Initiative is an alliance of 31 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean which, together with employers' and workers' organizations, is committed to preventing and eradicating child labour through innovative policies, strategies and actions.

After a decade of work driven by the Regional Initiative, the region now has a comprehensive ecosystem of tools, policies and alliances that enable progress towards a historic goal: achieving the first generation free of child labour. But reaching this goal requires joining forces and putting into action everything that has been built collectively.

What is child labour like in our region?

The youngest children (aged 5 to 7) account for more than a third of child labour.

This is the sector with the highest incidence of child labour.
