The global market, valued at over USD 1.8 trillion in 2023, is expanding steadily, driven by increased demand for digital services. This growth supports millions of jobs worldwide, though gender disparities persist: women make up about half the telecom workforce but are underrepresented in technical ICT roles, with a median gender pay gap of around 21%. Recent years have also seen increased unionization efforts across various parts of the tech and telecom industry, as organizations like the ILO focus on promoting decent work, skills development, and equitable employment practices in this rapidly changing field.
