Rebuilding better coconut economy: Integrated inclusive recovery model from Super Typhoon Rai (Odette) and overlaying crises

In response to Super Typhoon Rai (Odette), the project was initiated in partnership with the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of the Government of Japan to support local governments in helping coconut farmers and the working-age population affected by the calamity and concurrent crises.

The project provided capacity building activities and technical assistance to implement the ILO model and explored the potential of other coconut products and by-products to support enterprises and revitalize the coconut industry.

Outcomes

The project supported the integration of decent work into livelihood recovery and post-disaster response. It created opportunities for employers and workers to engage in social dialogue and contribute to the project implementation as guided by the R205 - Employment and Decent Work for Peace and Resilience Recommendation, 2017 (No. 205). The project further contributed to the following outcomes:

1. Accelerated the Implementation of the COCO CARE rehabilitation plan of Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) by addressing the imminent bottlenecks.
2. Supported the local government's Rehabilitation and Recovery Programmes (RRPs)/Programmes Projects Activities (PPAs) with multiple linkages.
3. Facilitated the local government's access to relevant programmes funding and coordinated implementation towards an integrated recovery and development of the local economy.
