The project “Improving labour inspection and OSH systems in Uzbekistan” has the overarching goal to address the fundamental principles and rights challenges and in particular OSH deficits in Uzbekistan.

The project focuses its efforts on supporting the alignment of national legislation and practices with the relevant international labour standards on OSH and labour inspection, fostering the development of a national preventative OSH culture and the formulation and implementation of a sound policy, system and programme for OSH, strengthening the labour inspection system through the provision of technical advice and information, monitoring and enforcement of compliance with the legal provisions, and improvement of the labour legislation.

Key objectives:

  1. Strengthening the National Framework – Aligning national legislation and practices with international labour standards (ILS) to foster a preventative OSH culture and improve labour inspection systems.
  2. Policy and Legal Reforms – Developing OSH policies and programmes and supporting the ratification and implementation of key ILO OSH Conventions.
  3. Capacity Building – Enhancing the skills and competencies of labour inspectors, employers, and workers in workplace safety.
  4. Improving Compliance & Enforcement – Strengthening the State Labour Inspectorate to effectively enforce compliance with OSH regulations.
  5. Promoting Social Dialogue – Encouraging tripartite collaboration between government, employers, and workers to ensure effective workplace safety measures.
