Technical and Vocational Education and Training

Education and skills development, approached holistically, are among the most effective entry points to address discrimination and systemic vulnerabilities. Inclusive Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) ensures that all individuals - regardless of gender, disability, displacement, socio-economic background or other barriers - have equitable access to quality, labour-market-relevant skills aligned with their aspirations.

By equipping individuals with relevant competencies while strengthening their agency, inclusive TVET not only improves employability and access to decent work, but also contributes to more resilient, productive and inclusive labour markets and societies.

This goes beyond removing barriers.

It requires actively engaging underrepresented and vulnerable groups in the design, implementation and evaluation of policies and programmes, ensuring that systems reflect their realities and needs. It also demands close monitoring of participation and outcomes at every stage - from outreach and recruitment, through training and assessment, to the transition into employment - to prevent exclusion and reduce dropout.

A learner-centred approach is central to this effort. Training systems must adapt to diverse learning needs, preferences and circumstances by offering flexible delivery modes, inclusive learning environments and targeted support.

In doing so, inclusive TVET ensures that no one is left behind in the transition to the future of work.
