Improving Occupational Safety and Health and Access to Social Protection for Workers in the Kenyan Agri-Business Sector

This collaboration between the ILO and Eni S.p.A. aims to enhance Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) and expand social health protection for agricultural workers in Kenya, where gaps in coverage disproportionately affect farmers. Focusing on the castor supply chain, the initiative works with the government, employers', and workers' organizations to strengthen OSH practices and social protection systems.

The project is aligned with the ILO’s Safety + Health for All and Social Protection Floors for All programmes. It seeks to empower 50,000 farmers in Kenya by improving workplace safety and ensuring access to essential health protections, thereby addressing critical gaps in the agricultural sector.

Project Objectives

  1. Strengthen tripartite collaboration to develop and implement strategies that improve Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) and expand access to social health protection for workers in the agri-business sectors.
  2. Empower employers, workers, and their representatives to adopt and promote better OSH practices and workplace health initiatives within the agri-business sector.
  3. Enhance social protection coverage by building the capacity of key actors in the castor agricultural value chains.
