The construction sector is changing. New technologies and greener ways of working are creating new skills needs and opportunities for young people. In the Philippines, the number of young construction workers has increased, but their share of the sector's workforce has been declining. Attracting young people to construction is an important industry concern.

The Advancing Digital and Green Skills for Youth in ASEAN project supports young people in the Philippines to gain relevant digital and green skills for work in the construction sector. It combines skills training, apprenticeships and stronger cooperation between industry and training institutions.

The project helps young workers develop future-ready skills that match changing industry needs. It also supports the Philippines' transition towards greener development and complements the country's efforts to strengthen skills in the green building sector.

The project aims to contribute to:

  • Stronger employability and skills among young people in the Philippines.
  • Digital and green training programmes for young construction workers.
  • Improved apprenticeship practices that support the transition from learning to decent work.
  • Stronger capacity of trainers and assessors to deliver relevant skills programmes.
  • Closer cooperation between industry and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.
  • Greater regional cooperation on skills development and recognition across ASEAN.
  • Just transition to low-carbon and climate-resilient development.
