The Visit of Director General of the ILO to Indonesia and Timor-Leste

The Director General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Mr Guy Ryder, will visit to Indonesia and Timor-Leste from 10 to 16 December 2014. This is the first time that a Director General of the ILO comes to both countries. This is an important momentum for the ILO as well as Indonesia and Timor-Leste. They provide an opportunity to discuss and examine labour and employment issues at both global and national levels.

Indonesia

During his visit to Indonesia, Mr Ryder is scheduled to meet with the Vice President Republic of Indonesia, H.E Jusuf Kalla. He will also participate in a National Tripartite Meeting conducted and hosted by the Ministry of Manpower. The meeting will be attended by the Chair of the Indonesian Employers’ Association (Apindo) and Heads of the Trade Union Confederations as the ILO’s constituents. The meeting will discuss ways to strengthen collaboration between the ILO and Government of Indonesia as well as other relevant stakeholders in ensuring the realization of decent work for all in the country.

In addition, the ILO Director General will conduct factory visits to interactively engage with both the management and the workers. The factories are part of ILO’s programmes Better Work as well as Sustaining Competitive and Responsible Enterprise (SCORE).

Mr Ryder is also scheduled to conduct a field visit to Kupang, Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT). He is going to visit decent work for food security programmes jointly conducted by the ILO in a close collaboration with the Provincial Government of NTT.

Indonesia and the ILO have collaborated very closely since the country became a member of the ILO on 12 June 1950.

Timor-Leste

During his visit to Timor-Leste, Mr Ryder is scheduled to meet with the Vice Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, H.E Fernando La Sama de Araújo . The meeting will discuss ways to strengthen collaboration between the ILO and Government of Timor-Leste as well as other relevant stakeholders in ensuring the realization of decent work for all in the country.

The ILO and Timor-Leste have collaborated very closely since the country became the ILO’s 177th member State on 19 August 2003.
