Media Advisory - The ILO Director General to Meet with Vice Prime Minister and Key Labour Actors in Timor-Leste
The Director General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Mr Guy Ryder, will visit Timor-Leste from 14 to 16 December 2014. This visit marks the first time that a Director General of the ILO will visit the country.

DILI (ILO News): The Director General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Mr Guy Ryder, will visit Timor-Leste from 14 to 16 December 2014. This visit marks the first time that a Director General of the ILO will visit the country.
During his visit, Mr Ryder is scheduled to meet with the Vice Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, H.E Fernando La Sama de Araújo . He will also participate in a Tripartite Meeting with the State Secretariat for Vocational Training and Employment Policy (SEPFOPE), the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Timor-Leste (CCI-TL) and the Confederation of Trade Unions of Timor-Leste (KSTL).
The meeting will discuss ways to strengthen collaboration between the ILO and Government of Timor-Leste as well as other relevant stakeholders in ensuring the realization of decent work for all in the country.
Mr Ryder is also scheduled to conduct a field visit to Laulara village, an hour from Dili, the capital city of Timor-Leste. He is going to visit the road rehabilitation and livelihoods developments project under the Road for Development (R4D) programme, where he will interactively engage with local authorities and communities.
The R4D programme is designed to lead and coordinate all rural road development and maintenance activities in Timor-Leste. The Programme is funded by the Government of Australia and supported by the ILO. The programme is aligned with, and contributes to, the Government of Timor-Leste’s Strategic Development Plan 2011-2030, the Fifth Constitutional Program of the Government of Timor-Leste and the Ministry of Public Works’ Five-Year Action Plan
“The visit is an important momentum for both ILO and Timor-Leste,” said Peter van Rooij, ILO Country Director for Indonesia and Timor-Leste. “It provides an opportunity to discuss and examine labour and employment issues at both global and national levels.”
The ILO and Timor-Leste have collaborated very closely since the country became the ILO’s 177th member State on 19 August 2003.
