South Sudan ratifies ILO Convention No. 138 and No. 182
South Sudan's ratification of the ILO Minimum Age Convention, 1973 (No.138) and the ILO Worst Forms of Child Labour Convention, 1999 (No.182) has now been formally registered.
South Sudan's ratification of the ILO Minimum Age Convention, 1973 (No.138) and the ILO Worst Forms of Child Labour Convention, 1999 (No.182) has now been formally registered, with the specified minimum age of 14 years under Convention No. 138.
This brings the total number of ratification of Convention No. 138 to 164 (out of 185 ILO Member States), and the ratification of Convention No. 182 to 176 - only 9 more to go for its universal ratification!
These two Conventions were among the 7 fundamental ILO Conventions that were applicable before the independence of South Sudan. The commitment to their continued application was recently confirmed by the Government and has been registered as effective with the date of 29 April 2012, when South Sudan became a member State of the ILO.
