Dialogues on displacement - Perspectives from ILO Practioners
Action Programme on Crisis (AP-Crisis), MIGRANT and PROSPECTS joint initiative to support institutional knowledge exchange and learning in contexts of forced displacement.
18 April 2025
The International Labour Organization’s engagement in forced displacement contexts has grown considerably since the adoption of the Employment and Decent Work for Peace and Resilience Recommendation, 2017 (No. 205) and the 2016 Guiding Principles on the Access of Refugees and Other Forcibly Displaced Persons to the Labour Market. ILO programmes that target host communities and forcibly displaced persons now span multiple regions and reflect a variety of displacement contexts. In this time, ILO has also amassed knowledge and lessons learned in implementation. While project evaluations and lessons learned exercises have highlighted some learnings, there is not yet a structure to facilitate a continuous exchange of learnings between ILO staff working on the topic.
In light of ILO’s growing presence in forced displacement contexts, and the subsequent need for ILO staff to share information, build networks and strengthen institutionalization on the topic, ILO’s Action Programme on Crisis (AP Crisis), the Labour Migration Branch (MIGRANT) and Partnership for improving prospects for forcibly displaced persons and host communities (PROSPECTS), are launching an online knowledge exchange series.
The series draws on the expertise of various ILO technical departments and country programmes, to share insights as to how ILO tools and approaches have been applied in forced displacement contexts.
