The Regional Initiative for the Strengthening of Social Dialogue and Collective Labour Relations in Latin America and the Caribbean (IRDS) expresses the importance that governments, workers and employers attribute to social dialogue in promoting a democratic and equitable world of work.

This Initiative responds to the constituents' commitment to promote constructive social dialogue and collective labour relations based on respect for freedom of association and the promotion of collective bargaining.

The general objective of the Initiative is to support constituents in the development of a comprehensive and viable framework of policies and practices for social dialogue that considers:

  • Specific realities of Latin American and Caribbean countries
  • Diverse economic contexts
  • Common challenges

In this regard, the Initiative seeks to strengthen the understanding of the challenges in industrial relations models and the root causes of industrial disputes at national and regional levels, with a view to encouraging a culture of mature social dialogue and harmonious industrial relations.
