Situation analysis study on the worst forms of child labour and education status in agriculture and rural areas of Myanmar

This publication presents the findings of a qualitative situational analysis conducted under the Achieving Reduction of Child Labour in Support of Education (ARISE) project, implemented by the International Labour Organization (ILO) with the support of the Government of Japan.

The study examines the current situation of child labour, particularly its worst forms, and the education status of children in agricultural and rural communities across Mon State, Southern Shan State, Mandalay Region and Sagaing Region.

Drawing on a desk review, key informant interviews and focus group discussions with children, parents, community members, social partners and civil society organizations, the study explores the underlying drivers, characteristics and consequences of child labour, as well as barriers to education and existing community-based child protection mechanisms. The report presents practical recommendations to strengthen child labour prevention and response through improved access to quality education, enhanced household livelihoods, stronger child protection and referral systems, and increased collaboration among stakeholders.
