Disaster risk reduction for resilience through employment and decent work

In a world of increasingly complex and interlinked crises, building resilience to disasters—whether from extreme weather or other causes—is essential. As climate change escalates, the impacts on ecosystems, economies, and societies grow, affecting vulnerable communities the hardest. This ILO guide addresses the need for proactive disaster-risk reduction, integrating resilience into employment and decent work to support recovery and build long-term sustainability. By providing both theoretical and practical insights, the guide aims to equip ILO staff, constituents, and partners to reduce vulnerabilities, enhance community capacities, and foster a resilient, equitable world where communities can not only survive disasters but thrive amid challenges. This publication was jointly developed by the Employment in Investments (EMPINVEST) Branch and the ILO Action Programme on Crisis and Post Crisis Situations (AP/CRISIS).
