This project contributes to the ILO’s efforts to improve the living standards of workers and their families, while ensuring the sustainability of the enterprises and economies that employ them, thereby promoting social justice and economic resilience. It does so by estimating living wages using the methodology developed by the ILO in order to inform social dialogue and evidence-based wage-setting processes in UEMOA countries.
Strategic framework
Developing living wage estimates in line with ILO principles and providing access to a global wage data hub to support evidence-based wage-setting processes in WAEMU countries.
Intervention results:
1.1. Living wage estimates, developed in line with ILO principles, are available to inform wage-setting processes in WAEMU intervention countries.
1.2. National constituents use a global wage data hub to access reliable, up-to-date wage data, including living wage estimates and economic factors, to make informed decisions on adequate wages.
Building the capacity of governments and social partners to integrate living wages into national wage-setting mechanisms, and creating an enabling environment for sustainable enterprises and wage growth.
Intervention results:
2.1. Wage-setting institutions, including minimum wage mechanisms and collective bargaining frameworks, are strengthened to operationalize living wages in a nationally anchored and sustainable way.
2.2. Root causes and challenges of low pay are identified and addressed through awareness, capacity building, and support for formalization, enabling wage growth.
Engaging governments, social partners, enterprises, and other stakeholders in WAEMU countries to harmonize approaches and promote alignment of living wage initiatives with the ILO Tripartite agreement.
Intervention results:
3.1. Living wage initiatives in WAEMU countries operate in alignment with ILO principles for estimating and operationalizing living wages.
3.2. ILO constituents and living wage initiatives reach shared understanding through conferences, roundtables, and workshops, fostering informed social dialogue on wage adequacy.
