JobAgri Ghana: Shaping better policies based on innovative data in agri-food sector

JobAgri is a partnership between the African Union, the ILO, Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), and Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD). The project is supported by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Through better evidence and policy dialogue, JobAgri aims to strengthen the ability of agrifood value chains to create decent employment, improve agriculture productivity and contribute to food security.

• Better evidence: There is a lack of data and analysis of evidence around labour content and employment to guide existing agri-food policy processes, and ensure they yield better employment outcomes and contribute to the overall structural transformation agenda.

  JobAgri aims to fill this knowledge gap through strengthening national statistical and research capacities in the areas of agriculture and employment. The project works with national institutions to develop indicators and data collection processes investigating the labour content of different farming systems.

• Better policies: Currently, employment policies and agriculture policies tend to operate in isolation.

  JobAgri supports comprehensive analyses of existing policies, to assist national stakeholders in identifying the best entry points depending on focus areas, policy windows and priority issues.

  It supports the establishment of multi-stakeholder and ‘tripartite-plus’ policy dialogues to ensure coordinated and comprehensive policy solutions to maximize the impact of the agri-food sector on decent work.
