Senior government officials from migrant worker counties of origin and destination in Asia and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), respectively, will meet to discuss issues related to recruitment and internal labour market mobility. The meeting, held under the banner of the Abu Dhabi Dialogue (ADD), will be attended by ILO officials and other labour migration experts. Government representatives include those from Bangladesh, Bahrain, India, Indonesia, Kuwait, Malaysia, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, the Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates and Vietnam.
The two-day meeting will focus the following themes:
Current and potential alternative models of labour recruitment;
labour mobility in destination labour markets;
review the current ADD joint activities and initiatives;
share newly launched unilateral activities and programmes by member governments. (To see the meeting agenda click here.)
To conclude the meeting, a draft final communique that will include proposed future programmes initiatives, and recommendations for the fourth Ministerial Consultation of the ADD.
The Abu Dhabi Dialogue is a voluntary and non-binding inter-government consultative process, engaging seven Asian countries of labour destination, eleven countries of origin and three observer nations. The broad purpose of the Abu Dhabi Dialogue process is to provide a forum for the discussion of new ideas and concrete activities towards the enhancement of bilateral regional cooperation and partnership aimed at better administering the temporary contract employment cycle as well as maximizing its benefits to contract workers, employers and the economies of countries of origin and destination.
