Africa Skills Week 2026: Skills Hubs as a lever for Africa’s skills revolution

How can skills systems better respond to Africa’s green transition, changing labour markets and the evolving needs of industry? This session will explore how Skills Hubs can bring together governments, employers, workers, training institutions, research centres and development partners to strengthen skills anticipation, innovation, industry engagement and lifelong learning.

Drawing on emerging experiences from across Africa, the session will showcase different models of Skills Hubs and explore their potential to support greener economies, decent jobs, entrepreneurship and resilient local value chains. It will also identify opportunities for national, regional and South-South cooperation and contribute to the development of a connected pan-African network of centres of expertise.

The session is co-organised by the International Labour Organization (ILO), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and Humana People to People, in the context of Africa Skills Week 2026 and the ILO–UNIDO joint initiative on Skills for Sustainable Industrial Transformation in Africa (SITA). It contributes to the implementation of the African Continental TVET Strategy 2025–2034 and Agenda 2063.

Drawing on its experience in developing TVET institutions as local Skills Hubs, Humana People to People will bring practical perspectives on connecting skills development with employers, communities, public institutions and local value chains, including in rural and informal economies.

The African Skills Hubs Competition, a joint initiative of ILO, UNIDO and Humana People to People, with financial support from the Humana People to People Education & Training Foundation, will be launched during this session to promote innovative approaches to skills development and employment across Africa.

Join us to explore how Skills Hubs can help build stronger skills ecosystems and a more skilled, resilient and competitive African workforce.
