Digital labour platforms
The nature and growth of the platform economy, notably digital labour platforms, is significantly transforming the world of work. It has created opportunities for enterprises and business development, opened new pathways for the formalization of work, and generated new sources of work and income. These opportunities also exist alongside decent work deficits.
In June 2026, the International Labour Conference adopted the Decent Work in the Platform Economy Convention, 2026 (No. 193). Its adoption marks a milestone in the development of international labour standards dealing with digitization. The Convention promotes decent work opportunities and measures to facilitate formalization, as well as establishing protections for digital platform workers.
New Convention on decent work in the platform economy
This first international labour standard on the platform economy marks an important step in addressing a rapidly evolving area of the world of work.
