Standard contract of employment for domestic workers in Sri Lanka

On International Domestic Workers’ Day, ILO Sri Lanka launched a Standard Employment Contract for Domestic Workers — a landmark initiative aimed at promoting decent work and formal recognition for domestic workers. This model employment contract was developed through analysis of national laws and international labour standards, and validated through a series of stakeholder consultations.

This initiative functions as a tool for advocacy, and a basis for further discussion, marking a significant step towards recognition of domestic workers’ rights, dignity, and access to decent working conditions.

The model contract is available in two tailored formats: (i) for live-in-domestic workers and (ii) for live-out domestic workers.
