Creating decent work opportunities for domestic and community-based care workers through transformative actions for gender equality in Sri Lanka

Overall objective

To promote decent work and social protection for domestic and community-based care workers in Sri Lanka by improving the policy and legal framework, enhancing social protection mechanisms, and fostering gender equality in the care economy.

Project outcomes

• Increased capacity of constituents to promote investments and decent work in the care economy.
• Increased capacity of Member States to harness social protection for inclusive life and work transitions and structural transformations.
• National strategy formulated to respond to technological advancements and other productive market demands for population at large.
• Improved social protection to all workers with special focus on informal workers.

Expected results

• A validated maternity insurance scheme for Sri Lanka.
• A pilot digital application for registering domestic workers.
• A gender responsive roadmap for care economy in Sri Lanka.
