SKILL-UP Programme: Upgrading skills for the changing world of work

SKILL-UP Programme is a joint effort of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs aimed to help the ILO Member States enhance their skills systems to take advantage of new opportunities offered by emerging global drivers of change relating to increased digitalization, international trade integration, technological change, large international migration flows, climate change, demographics, among others.

The Programme has global and country components. The SKILL-UP Global’s main outcomes focus on new global products development and innovation; strengthening national skills systems; capacity development, advocacy, knowledge sharing and support to country components. The SKILL-UP Country Projects are located in Ghana, Ethiopia, Lebanon, Malawi, Senegal and Tanzania. They are developed to deliver on three main areas: skills anticipation, skills systems development and social inclusion. Additionally, the Programme supports dialogue between countries of origin and destination in two Sub-Saharan African regions: Western Africa and Central Africa to forge skills partnerships that make migration more demand-led and better informed. Read more

    Virtual Reality for Waste Management Training is one of the semi-finalists of the 1st ILO Skills Challenge Innovation Call. The solution, submitted by Qutoof (Jordan), uses Virtual Reality (VR) to provide training in waste management, in particular on how to deal with hazardous situations, especially in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

    ILO Skills Challenge Innovation Call: Virtual Reality Skill Lab is one of the semi-finalists of the 1st ILO Skills Challenge Innovation Call. The solution, submitted by Blink 42-21 (North Macedonia), is a simulation and capacity building training programme for labour market integration.

  3. Semi-finalist of the 1st ILO Skills Challenge Innovation Call

    The Heritage Ambassador Programme, NSDC, India

    The Heritage Ambassador Programme is one of the semi-finalists of the 1st ILO Skills Challenge Innovation Call. The solution, submitted by the National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC – India), aims to equip persons from local communities of heritage sites with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform as professional tourist guides, accredited by the relevant national body. Eventually, they will be linked to tourism aggregator websites, where travellers can hire these certified guides directly.

  4. Semi-finalist of the 1st ILO Skills Challenge Innovation Call

    ProAbled Online Academy, Lebanon

    ProAbled Online Academy is one of the semi-finalists of the 1st ILO Skills Challenge Innovation Call. The solution, submitted by shareQ NGO (Lebanon), provides training and employment support to build capacities of persons with disabilities (PWDs) through work readiness, soft skills and entrepreneurship training, and career guidance. It also trains HR teams in companies and universities on inclusion at the workplace.

    Promoting Highly-Skilled Workforce and Sustainable Enterprises, MIESES Global, Spain

    Promoting Highly-Skilled Workforce and Sustainable Enterprises is one of the semi-finalists of the 1st ILO Skills Challenge Innovation Call. The solution, submitted by MIESES Global (Spain), supports small businesses by encouraging their active participation in innovation and skills development processes while building excellence and sustainability as strategic values.

  6. Finalist of the 1st ILO Skills Challenge Innovation Call

    SUGECO Agribusiness Innovation Hub, SUGECO, Tanzania

    SUGECO Agribusiness Innovation Hub is one of the finalists of the 1st ILO Skills Challenge Innovation Call. The solution, submitted by the Sokoine University Graduate Entrepreneurs Cooperative (Tanzania), is a youth agribusiness incubator that promotes youth engagement in agriculture and agribusiness value chains.

    Scaling Dual Training through Social Franchising, Ánima, Uruguay

    Scaling Dual Training through Social Franchising is one of the finalists of the 1st ILO Skills Challenge Innovation Call. The solution, submitted by Ánima Bachillerato Tecnológico (Uruguay), proposes to replicate the dual training model implemented by Ánima, including transferring Anima’s knowledge and methodologies, to other public or private educational organizations and institutions.

    Innovative Clusters Governance, KCCI, Korea

    Innovative Clusters Governance is one of the finalists of the 1st ILO Skills Challenge Innovation Call. The solution, submitted by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), offers advice and support to Small and Medium size Enterprises to design and implement tailored training programmes for their employees.

  9. Finalist of the 1st ILO Skills Challenge Innovation Call

    GISEL: Gap Identification System Learning Environment, INTECAP, Guatemala

    Gap Identification System Learning Environment (GISEL) is one of the finalists of the 1st ILO Skills Challenge Innovation Call. The solution, submitted by the Instituto Técnico de Capacitación y Productividad (INTECAP – Guatemala), is an online system that helps users identify and close skills gaps by designing optimal learning pathways and providing them with the necessary resources to get certified.
