What are you trying to make happen that isn’t happening right now?

What can be achieved that is specific, actionable and measurable?
When you’re working to drive change, people often start by identifying the broad audience for a particular story or strategy (e.g. lawmakers, citizens of a specific group, etc.). But as a strategist, it’s critical to start even further back by identifying the change you’re trying to make.
As you develop your story, think about your larger strategy.
How will telling this story support that strategy? For example, if your strategy is focused on getting a country to increase its investments in enforcement, your story should demonstrate how enforcement addresses the issue.
While it’s tempting to focus your story on those who endure child labor or forced labor, shifting the focus to that of someone working in enforcement could offer a new perspective, and may help others recognize their own agency in making a difference.
It is important that you and your team be able to articulate, clearly, what you want to have happen. Connect it to specific actions someone with the power to act or make a change can take and it is often best to add numbers or other metrics to measure that. For example, perhaps you wish a specific country to adopt policies more aligned with your goals; identify which policies and by when.
