The Road Map advocates for greater cooperation and synergies to drive action and suggests practical measures to advance gender equality in the sector. These cover four strategic gender themes:
1. Pay equity;
2. Discrimination, violence and harassment at work;
3. Unpaid care, managing work and family responsibilities (including care support, and maternity, paternity and parental provisions); and
4. Women’s voice, leadership and representation in industry decision-making.
The Road Map aims to drive progress in these fields through social dialogue and joint stakeholder action at regional and national levels, with a focus on ‘network power’ – such as diverse organizations contributing to shared priorities and actions through their own resources and connections. Organizations involved in the sector can utilize the Road Map as a framework for advancing gender equality and women’s economic empowerment.
The Road Map has been produced under the ILO Decent Work in Garment Supply Chains Asia project, with support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
