The third mission to Malawi under the STRENGTHEN2 project took place from July 31 to August 4. Within this timeframe, a general training event was conducted, which highlighted the importance of Employment Impact Assessments (EmpIAs) and introduced economy-wide models, such as Input-Output multiplier analysis.
Participants included representatives of government ministries, including the Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, the National Planning Commission and National Statistics Office, Malawi-based universities, think tanks, as well as employers’ and workers’ organizations.
During the mission, a validation/presentation of results event also took place. This event was held at the EUD facilities in Lilongwe, where the results of the EmpIA for the M1 Road Rehabilitation project was shared with several national stakeholders. The mission also visited the Mozambique Malawi Interconnector project sites located in the south part of Malawi.
The goal of these site visits was to collect information for advancing the EmpIA of this project. Finally, bilateral discussions with key national stakeholders on further collaboration were also held during this mission.
