Lima - Peruvian actor Marco Zunino, a National Ambassador for UNICEF, has joined the efforts of the International Labour Organization (ILO) to combat trafficking in persons, a heinous crime that jeopardizes the lives and dignity of children and adolescents.
"I want to be the voice for all those who are currently victims of trafficking. This is not a distant reality; it happens right here in Peru, and we must start discussing this issue. The more people talk about trafficking, the more people will become aware of what's happening, and more people will want to be part of the fight to eradicate this crime," Marco Zunino declared during the opening of the multisectoral information fair organized to commemorate the National Day Against Trafficking in Persons.
In his role as a new ally to the ILO, Zunino took the stage alongside Aissa Tejada, General Director of Democratic Security at the Ministry of Interior; Rocío Gala Gálvez, Senior Prosecutor and National Coordinator of Specialized Prosecution Offices for Trafficking in Persons; General PNP Carlos Malaver, Director of the Trafficking in Persons Division of the National Police of Peru (PNP); and Henry Aguilera Rodríguez, General Director of Children and Adolescents at the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations.
The fair brought together over 500 people at Neptuno Park in Lima Cercado district, and the Peruvian actor engaged attendees at the ILO's booth, alongside the team from the project "Partnerships in Actions to End Child Trafficking in Peru", led by its National Coordinator, Karina Jensen.
"For us, it is crucial that a renowned actor like Marco Zunino, who has such a strong sense of social awareness, joins our fight against trafficking" stated Karina Jensen. Marco Zunino will continue to participate in activities aimed at preventing and combating trafficking in persons in Peru.
Other government entities that are part of the Permanent Multisectoral Commission Against Trafficking in Persons and the Smuggling of Migrants also participated in the fair, alongside specialized agencies from the United Nations System dedicated to combating trafficking in persons in Peru, including the ILO, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
