Newly formed EIS Governance Board convenes third meeting
Under the Employment Injury Scheme (EIS) Pilot, the third meeting of the Governance Board was held on 11 April 2023, aiming to enhance Employment Injury Protection for ready-made garment workers.
DHAKA (ILO News) – Under the Employment Injury Scheme (EIS) Pilot, the third meeting of the Governance Board was held on 11 April 2023, aiming to enhance Employment Injury Protection for ready-made garment workers.
A total of 18 officials from the Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE), Central Fund (CF), Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE), Department of Labour (DoL), Employers’ Associations (BEF, BGMEA, BKMEA), Workers’ Associations (UFGW, NCCWE, IBC), participated in the meeting. All the nominated officials from the reformed governance board participated in the meeting. Additionally, 3 Officials from ILO and GIZ attended the meeting as observers as per the circulated notice by the Ministry of Labour and Employment dated on March 12, 2023. The meeting was chaired by Mr Ehsan E Elahi, Secretary, MoLE and the chairperson of the governance board.
The role of the governance board is to manage funds for the Employment Injury Scheme Pilot, which aims to contribute in ensuring social security in Bangladesh in accordance with Labour Rules, 2015 (amendment 2022). The Board will also provide guidance and take necessary actions to expedite the work under EIS Pilot.
ILO and GIZ are providing technical support to the Government of Bangladesh, Employers and Workers organizations in implementing the employment injury scheme pilot through a project funded by Government of Netherlands and Germany.
