AMMAN (ILO News) The National Steering Committee on Pay Equity (NSCPE) in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO) next week will launch a study on the gender pay gap in Jordan’s private schools and universities, as well as a review of the legal amendments needed to tackle the wage inequity in Jordan.

Under the patronage of HRH Princess Basma Bint Talal, the event will present in-depth data and solutions on how to bridge the gender pay gap to attract more women into work. It is part of the NSPCE’s national campaign for the amendment of Jordanian legislation in line with ILO Equal Remuneration Convention, 1951 (No. 100), which promotes equal pay for all workers and encourages employees to seek help in cases of discrimination.

Participants include HE Minister of Labour and Minister of Transport Dr Nidal Katamine, ILO Regional Director for the Arab States Ms Nada al-Nashif and policymakers, civil society organizations, employers' and workers' representatives, academics and international donors.

The NSCPE was launched in 2011 by the Ministry of Labour, the Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW), and the ILO to promote the principle of equal pay for work of equal value in Jordan and to take the lead in developing and implementing an Action Plan for Pay Equity and to close the current gender pay gap.

Venue: Landmark Hotel – Amman, Jordan
