International Labour Organization and United States Department of Labor delegation meet key stakeholders to discuss labour standards in Kenya

Kenya (ILO News) International Labour Organization (ILO) All Hands in Kenya (AHK) project held a tripartite breakfast meeting on Tuesday, 22 August 2023 and one-on-one engagement with partners in the country. The breakfast session brought together the Ministry of Labour & Social partners; the Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE), and the Central Organization of Trade Unions in Kenya (COTU).
The meeting also hosted a delegation of visiting United States Department of Labor (USDOL) representatives working on trade and labour issues in Africa. They held discussions with the Ministry of Labour and key partners on the mission of the USDOL-funded AHK project towards enhancing compliance with international labour standards and acceptable conditions of work. During the engagements, the tripartite partners confirmed their continued collaboration and partnership with the ILO Kenya and the USDOL in all activities that seek to foster international labour standards and acceptable conditions of work within the tea and textile sectors in 13 different Counties.
The meeting was an enviable opportunity for the partners to discuss the progress of the project and identify further ways to enhance compliance. The delegation from the USDOL also shared their insights and expertise on this important issue.
All Hands in Kenya is a USD 3,000,000, four-year (2020 – 2024) project funded by The Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB) through the US Department of Labor. The project is working towards improving compliance with international labour standards (ILS), Kenyan laws, and acceptable work conditions (ACW), specifically within the tea and textile sectors, working directly with the national government through the Ministry of Labour, the workers, and employers’ organizations.
