ILO Turkey’s Digital Training Platform “ILO Academy” Launched to Meet Users

ILO Akademi, the digital training platform of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Office for Turkey, commenced its online training services in May 2021.

ILO Akademi Aspires to Provide Accessible and Sustainable Training for All

Developing skills in line with the rapidly changing needs of the world of work requires revolutionising how we learn. The world around us is digitalising, and the number of people interacting, working and trading using digital technologies is increasing more than ever. People without the ability to navigate through this digital environment are less likely to adapt, especially in the midst of the social and economic fallout of the COVID 19 crisis, which has deepened skills obsolescence in certain sectors and increased trends towards automation even further.

Trainees to receive certificates upon completion

Based on this approach and acting on the motto “Digital Learning for All, All for Social Justice”, ILO Akademi has commenced service at https://iloakademi.org/, where prospective trainees may register for access to online training. Users will have the training free of charge and receive online certificates upon completion.

First online training is for KARSAN employees on “Zero Tolerance for Violence”

The digital platform is now providing the “Zero Tolerance for Violence” training to the employees of KARSAN, Turkey’s local producer of commercial vehicles, under “More and Better Jobs for Women” Programme of the ILO Office for Turkey to prevent violence and harassment at work in the context of its efforts to promote gender equality at enterprises and at work.

The training represents a continuation of the gender equality training stream provided face-to-face to KARSAN employees in 2019-2020. It aims to increase their awareness on violence and harassment so as to prevent it at work.

The second course addressing young persons will start in June

Another online course that is “Basic Labour Market Skills Training” will be available in this platform as of June 2021. This training aims to provide basic knowledge and behavioural skills to the young persons at the early stages of working life about their rights stemming from international labour standards and national labour legislation as well as public services available for transition to employment, professional development and protection at work.

Provided in both Turkish and Arabic languages, this training targets both Turkish citizens and refugee population in a final objective to facilitate labour market integration of vulnerable groups in decent working conditions.

ILO Akademi to cover further themes in upcoming period

Over time, the digital platform will expand to deliver a broader range of training programmes incorporating a multitude of themes in the context of other projects and programmes implemented by the ILO Office for Turkey.
