ILO to highlight jobs and resilience at TICAD9

YOKOHAMA (ILO News) – The International Labour Organization (ILO) will participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), taking place in Yokohama, Japan, from 20 to 22 August 2025.

The ILO delegation will be headed by André Bogui, Assistant Director-General and Director of the Director-General’s Office (CABINET), accompanied by Fanfan Rwanyindo Kayirangwa, Assistant Director-General and Regional Director for Africa.

A highlight of the ILO’s programme will be a high-level side event organized in collaboration with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), entitled Jobs and livelihoods, enhancing resilience: A means to address root causes of protracted crises.

This event will take place on Thursday, 21 August, from 3.20 p.m. to 4.50 p.m. JST. It will explore how promoting decent work and sustainable livelihoods can strengthen resilience, tackle the root causes of crises, and foster inclusive recovery for all, including women, youth, and persons with disabilities.

The session is open to in-person and online participants. Registration for in-person attendance is available here. The event will also be livestreamed on ILO Live, with simultaneous translation available in English and Japanese.

In addition, the annual ILO–Japan consultations with the Government of Japan will take place on 22 August, continuing the long-standing collaboration between Japan and the ILO in promoting social justice, decent work and sustainable development.
