La Paz – On the occasion of World Day for Safety and Health at Work, the Bolivian Confederation of Private Employers of Bolivia (CEPB), Global Compact, OHS Salud para su Empresa, Emprende Andino and the ILO, through the SCORE Project in Bolivia, held a series of webinars at the regional level from 24 to 28 April to promote the construction of safe and healthy work environments.

Since 2022, Occupational Safety and Health is considered a fundamental right of all workers in the world, and SMEs, which account for more than 80% of employment in the Andean countries, are key players in guaranteeing this right for all workers.

Entrepreneurs, SMEs and cooperatives from the productive sector of Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru and Guatemala participated in the "Safety and Health at Work Week 2023" online events.

The event was attended by more than 100 people, mostly women, who were able to learn about different tools that can be easily applied in companies to strengthen Occupational Safety and Health management. The expert panellists —most of them ILO-certified SCORE master trainers— also discussed with the participants how to promote a culture of prevention in their companies.

According to the ILO's Panorama of Occupational Safety and Health in Latin America and the Caribbean around 317 million people are victims of work-related accidents. In turn, about 2.34 million people lose their lives due to preventable work-related accidents or occupational diseases.

Promoting this type of space is essential to raise awareness among entrepreneurs about the importance of having a safe and healthy working environment, considering that it is a fundamental principle and right for workers.
