ILO methodology will help assess the needs of labour market in Tajikistan
Tajikistan’s Labour and Employment Agency and the Ministry of Labour, Migration and Employment, with the support from the International Labour Organization’s project “Applying the G20 Training Strategy,” organized a round table conference to present the findings of Establishing Skills Survey, evaluating the need for competences in the Republic’s three districts: Sughd and Khatlon regions and the capital city of Dushanbe.

Among the respondents in the survey, which was conducted by experts of the Labour and Employment Agency, were some 700 employers in three sectors: the processing industry, construction and electricity, gas and water supply. Non-governmental organization “Information and Research Centre “Sotzservis” has provided organizational support and expertise in conducting the study and processing its data.
The Survey is a pilot study implemented in Tajikistan for the first time. Its operational tools were developed on the basis of ILO methodology, with the assistance from international experts. Among the goals of the study was the adoption of its techniques by the country’s Labour and Employment Agency in order to be able to obtain, and make practical use of, the real-time data about the specific demand in the labour market for specialists with required skills.
Such information is also important for the development of the vocational training system in the country, so the Ministry of Labour, Migration and Employment intends to take into account the recommendations of the Survey when working to further develop the initial vocational education and vocational trainings for adults.
Representatives of the sectoral ministries and departments, the ILO constituents, delegates from the regions, officials of international organizations and other stakeholders took part in the round table. The participants adopted a set of recommendations and mapped out a plan of concrete actions for the successful integration of the survey methodology techniques into the operational practice of Tajikistan’s employment service.
