Caribbean Ministers of Labour meet with ILO Director-General, Guy Ryder, at 110th session of the ILC
The meeting focused on continued assistance to Caribbean member States. Additionally, the Ministers unanimously expressed their deep appreciation and gratitude to Mr Ryder for advancing the work of the ILO in the Caribbean region over the last ten years.

On 7 June 2022, Caribbean Ministers of Labour from The Bahamas, Barbados, Guyana, and Suriname, attending the 110th Session of the International Labour Conference (ILC), met with the Mr. Guy Ryder, ILO Director-General. The meeting focused on continued assistance to the member States of CARICOM.
During the meeting, the Hon. Joseph Hamilton, Minister of Labour, Guyana, expressed his gratitude to the Director-General on behalf of his Government for the continued technical assistance from the ILO to the Ministry of Labour. Recently, the ILO Decent Work Team and Office for the Caribbean teamed up with the Ministry of Labour in Guyana to improve the recording of Occupational Safety and Health accidents and diseases through the donation of IT equipment, staff training and the development of an electronic system of Recording and Notification of Occupational Accidents and Diseases (RNOAD).
During his intervention, the Honourable Steven Mac Andrew, Minister of Labor, Employment and Youth Affairs, Suriname, highlighted the importance of the support given by the ILO Caribbean Office during the COVID-19 pandemic. Noting that, “the Caribbean Office provided technical assistance to ensure that progress was made on the implementation of the country's Second Decent Work Country Programmme”. He also informed the Director-General that Suriname was in the preliminary process of drawing up a Third Decent Work Country Programme where employment will be given a central place. Finally, the Minister thanked the Director-General, who retires from the ILO in September 2022 for his services, in particular the promotion of decent work, which, under his leadership, has also become a Sustainable Development Goal.
At the close of the Meeting the Ministers unanimously expressed their deep appreciation and gratitude to Mr Ryder for advancing the work of the ILO to constituents in the Caribbean region over the last ten years. They extended a warm farewell and best wishes to the Director-General as he embarked on the next chapter of his journey.
