Local manufacturing, better farming: upgrading greenhouses in Lebanon

In Lebanon, high import costs and a challenging economy often leave smallholder farmers trapped using outdated "low-tunnel" greenhouses that restrict crop growth and offer poor ventilation. To bridge this gap, the ILO’s BOUZOUR project, funded by SIDA, is localizing innovation.

By providing technical training to Lebanese metal workshops and installers, the project has turned local ironworkers into specialized greenhouse manufacturers. This shift doesn’t just lower the price tag for farmers; it creates a sustainable, home-grown supply chain that delivers high-quality, double-span structures designed for better yields and improved worker safety.
