Women’s participation in employment and resilience-building: Experiences from the Employment-Intensive Investment Programme (EIIP) in Afghanistan

This brief highlights how the International Labour Organization’s Employment-Intensive Investment Programme (EIIP), through its project "Promoting employment and decent work in Afghanistan through the Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus", enabled women in Afghanistan to safely participate in employment and skills development during a highly restrictive period. It showcases context-sensitive measures - including inclusive recruitment practices, sustained community engagement, adapted and safe worksites, and entrepreneurship support - that enabled women to generate income, strengthen their resilience and confidence, and contribute to gradual positive shifts in community attitudes toward women’s economic participation.
