Research brief: Measuring digital platform employment in Viet Nam: Lessons learned from the pilot survey

This brief explores Viet Nam’s pioneering effort to capture digital platform employment through a labour force survey, offering valuable lessons for improving labour statistics to support informed policymaking.

Amid Viet Nam’s rapid digital transformation, the General Statistics Office (now National Statistics Office since March 2025), with technical support from the ILO, piloted a module on digital platform employment (DPE) within the 2023 Labour Force Survey. The brief identifies key challenges, such as limited sampling, short reference periods, and misclassification risks, and provides practical recommendations to improve DPE measurement. These insights support the development of inclusive labour statistics and inform policies to ensure decent work in the platform economy.
