This factsheet details how the PROSPECTS Partnership is supporting Uganda, Africa’s largest refugee-hosting country, as it works to maintain its inclusive refugee model amid declining humanitarian funding and growing pressure on services. With more than 1.9 million refugees and asylum seekers, Uganda continues to grant refugees freedom of movement, the right to work and access to national services, while PROSPECTS helps bridge humanitarian assistance with long-term development.

Funded by the Netherlands and implemented by IFC, ILO, UNHCR, UNICEF and the World Bank, PROSPECTS works alongside the Government of Uganda across four interconnected pillars: Protection and Social Protection, Education and Learning, Employment and Decent Work, and Critical Infrastructure.

These joint efforts have delivered tangible results, including support for 270,888 refugees and asylum seekers to access or maintain legal documentation and status, mental health and case management support for 136,000 individuals, education completion for 56,753 children, skills training for 33,797 youth, and wage or self-employment support for 12,813 individuals. By strengthening national systems and easing pressure on host communities, the Partnership helps refugees and Ugandans move toward lasting dignity, resilience and opportunity.
