Promoting formalization in the Viet Nam coffee industry : Employers' viewpoints towards supporting agricultural households - A summary

This brief summarizes the findings of the study, carried out in 2022-2023, and provides an overview of the main segments in the coffee value chain and explores opportunities for formalization.

An analysis of the advantages of small-scale units and the factors hindering formalization is provided. Moreover, the role of formalization in promoting supply chain sustainability and compliance with free trade agreements and supply chain due diligence requirements are explored. The study proposes the recommendations for the coffee value chain, highlighting the role of the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and related associations in increasing productivity and added value, improving participation in supply chain management, and reinforcing responsible business models. It is anticipated that these findings can be applied to other agricultural product sectors in Viet Nam.
