One barangay (village) one product: Squid rings in Sagay City, Negros Occidental

The onslaught of Super Typhoon Haiyan in Negros Occidental has pushed the vulnerable population further into poverty. But the city had survived with its product of squid rings.

To increase the production at guaranteed quality, in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO), the City of Sagay facilitated with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) provided training for 65 (six men and 59 women) on squid rings production with basic business skills. The project acted on this by working on the promotion of coastal products; improving service providers’ way of doing business and improving the local trading of products with better post-harvest packaging and linking with retail markets.
