Mission and impact of ILO Office for Turkey

The International Labour Organisation (ILO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations for the world of work. It sets international labour standards, promotes rights at work, enhances decent employment opportunities, strengthens social protection and supports dialogue on work-related issues.
The ILO has a unique structure, being the only tripartite UN agency, bringing together governments, employers and workers. ILO’s main objective is to provide opportunities for decent work and productive work for all regardless of status, nationality and sex, enjoying conditions that are safe, secure and decent.
The ILO adopted 190 Conventions out of which 59 have been ratified by Turkey as of April 2020. Standards and principles laid down in these conventions have been reflected in the Turkish labour law having an impact on individual and collective labour law as well as legislation on social security, occupational safety and health, child labour, social dialogue and labour inspection.
To promote these labour standards, the ILO Office for Turkey effectively engages with the government, employers’ and workers’ organizations and other international organizations.
The ILO Office for Turkey functions as the diplomatic representation of the ILO in Turkey, vis-à-vis the government, social partners, the international community and the general public.
