Informal economy diagnostic study in Egypt
The Informal Economy Diagnostic Study in Egypt, conducted by the International Labour Organization (ILO) under the Social Dialogue for Formalization and Employability in the Southern Neighbourhood (SOLIFEM) project—co-funded by the European Union (EU)—provides an in-depth analysis of informality across five key sectors: agriculture, engineering, food industries, ready-made garments (RMG), and transportation.
The study aims to equip national actors with the evidence and insights needed to build a shared understanding of the informal economy’s profile, its underlying drivers, and the sector-specific challenges and opportunities. Ultimately, it seeks to support informed policy dialogue and guide the transition toward formalization and decent work.
