A forest of opportunities. Living and working conditions in Argentina's forestry sector
This publication provides very relevant information for the prevention of potential situations of labour exploitation and identifies various decent work deficits in Argentina’s forestry value chain, focused on the provinces of Corrientes and Misiones. It is a Rapid Sector Appraisal (RSA) that was conducted as part of the MAP16 Project, “Measurement, awareness-raising and policy engagement to accelerate action against child labour and forced labour”. This RSA seeks to map “hot spots” along the forestry value chain where the risks of labour exploitation, human trafficking and forced labour and violations of other fundamental principles and rights at work, as well as decent work deficits, are the most pronounced.
The information generated by this RSA will be essential for gaining knowledge and formulating a comprehensive response that addresses public governance gaps and the vulnerability of people to the most important human and labour rights violations. The aim is to incentivize responsible behaviour by partnering with workers’ and employers’ organizations and with local industry in general so that, in the future, this information can improve the general working conditions.
