Research Brief
Drought, crop losses and employment impacts in Zambia
This research brief examines the impacts of the 2018–2019 drought in Zambia on crop productivity and local labour markets, combining satellite-based drought analysis with Labour Force Survey data. The findings show declines in agricultural productivity, employment and wages in drought-affected areas, highlighting the need for employment-centred climate responses.
This study aimed to address the overall research question: How did drought affect crop productivity and employment outcomes in Zambia between 2018 and 2021?
