The Anchor Enterprise: An intervention model for achieving more inclusive value chains: A case from Zimbabwe

‘Anchor enterprises’ is a rural economic empowerment model that targets the improvement of rural livelihoods through shared prosperity by strengthening the capacity of the producers and market actors to effectively participate in the governance of the value chains in which they operate. This model aims to increase access by rural youth and women to employment, economic opportunities, and enterprise development support along agriculture and non-agriculture value chain. It also seeks to ensure the arrest of post-harvest losses and access to wider markets for rural producers. The model has been applied in the horticulture and Mopani worms value chains of Mutoko and Beitbridge, respectively.
