Background

The elimination of all forms of child labour is one of ILO’s core priorities since its founding in 1919. Funded by CAOBISCO, this is the first ever public-private partnership project of the ILO Office for Türkiye in action against child labour.

The project first started in the province of Ordu in 2013; and is currently being implemented in six provinces namely Ordu, Samsun, Giresun, Düzce, Sakarya, Şanlıurfa.

The project’s objectives have been in line with the Turkish Government’s elimination of child labour strategies so far. The project has proceeded through the following 4 phases:

Phase-I (2013-2014): Initiated in Central and Perşembe districts of Ordu in 2013, then extended to Fatsa and Ünye districts in 2021.

Phase-II (2015-2017): In addition to Ordu, the project was expanded to cover the provinces of Sakarya, Düzce and Şanlıurfa.

Phase-III (2018-2020): Continued in the same provinces for capacity building, direct intervention and awareness raising.

Phase-IV (2021-2023): The project is expanded to cover the provinces of Samsun and Giresun.

Phase-V (2024-2026): To continue in the same provinces for capacity building, direct intervention and awareness raising by focusing on responsible business and human rights.
